Taking care of your Koa Yoga mats

We are happy to help you in how to clean the best way your Koa Yoga mat and that last as long as possible.

Clean it the right way

Use a small drop of dish soap diluted with plenty of water. Swab your mat gently with a non-abrasive sponge that is humid but not soaking wet.
We recommend you clean your mat only about every 5-10 uses. If you regularly practice in sweaty conditions, you may wish to clean your mat more frequently, but remember that while our Mindful movement Koa yoga mat materials are remarkably durable for Yoga practice, over-cleaning or using abrasive products will wear out the materials faster.
We do not recommend using any chemical mat cleaner sprays or essential oil sprays, as they can potentially damage the mat.

Let it dry for some minutes

After any practice and after cleaning, dry your mat fully before you roll it up.
If you go direct home from your class, just take it and unroll it to dry as soon as you get home.

Avoid keeping your mat out in the sun for long periods

Your mat is biodegradable and prolonged exposure to the sun can degrade it more quickly. Don’t worry so much about this, a bit of sun doesn’t modify anything.

Roll it the right way

Your mat is designed to be rolled with the top side (the coloured side with the Koa design) on the outside between uses. It’s important to roll it this way to help ensure that your mat lies nice and flat each time you use if for your practice.

When you use your mat

Because of the absorbent (and hygienic) materials we use, your skin’s natural oils may mark or stain the surface of the mat over time. Try to avoid practising on the mat with freshly applied oily creams or massage oil, for example, as these may cause stains. The good news is that these sorts of marks will often fade gradually with time or after cleaning.
